The Public and Commercia Services Union Annual Conference voted overwhelmingly to condemns the continuing Russian invasion of Ukraine and confirms its solidarity with the Ukrainian people and trade unions.

A affiliate to the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign, PCS held a successful fringe meeting UKRAINE: RESISTANCE AND SOLIDARITY, on 23 May with General Secretary Mark Serwotka speaking and Olha Ilkevych, activist of help.bucha campaign to aid former occupied areas.
Olha said: “You hear rockets flying above your head, and you don’t know if you’ll make it another ten minutes or not. People learn to talk about killing, including of family members, and other horrible things with a poker face – that’s the reality you have to get used to.’
“You look at previously beautiful cities – you see buildings destroyed, bullet holes, blood on the road. Some of our towns, including ones that were homes to millions of people, don’t exist any more. It’s still quite hard to get my head round.
“There is a lot to say about the politics of the war, about geopolitics, about money and power and capitalism – but people are dying. It’s not fair that Russia has decided to take our lives, our culture, our human rights. Everyone deserves life. That is what we are fighting for.
“If they stop fighting, that is the end of the war. If we stop fighting we will die or be enslaved.’
Many member of PCS attended and expressed full support for the resistance of the Ukrainian people, today members voted overwhelmingly in support of a motion re-affirming the PCS’s strong support for Ukraine.
