We the undersigned, trade unionists and campaigners, encourage unions affiliated to the Trades Union Congress to support motion 78, ‘Solidarity with Ukrainian workers‘, submitted by the National Union of Mineworkers to the upcoming TUC Congress (13-16 September, Brighton).

We support the motion’s call and pledge to build campaigning for the release of the 15 Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant workers – all members and reps of the Atomprofspilka nuclear union – abducted by the Russian occupiers, subjected to show trials and sentenced to years in prison on fabricated charges. Many hundreds of their colleagues have also been detained and abused or tortured.

We support the motion’s condemnation of Russia’s murderous war against the Ukrainian people, which has targeted and killed tens thousands of civilians, including workers in many sectors; and its reaffirmation of UK trade union support for Ukraine.

The 2023 TUC Congress voted overwhelmingly to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and its workers’ movement; since then a growing list of unions has organised political and practical solidarity and aid. TUC Congress 2026 should reaffirm that solidarity.
