Ukraine Solidarity Campaign stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and their labour movement on this Independence Day. On 24 August 1991 Ukraine restored its independence, affirmed with 92% voting in favour with 84% voter participation across all regions. Let us remember the key role the mine workers strikes played in that struggle for independence – today the mining communities like Pokrovsk in Donbas region face a mounting threat from Russian forces – together with the Ukrainian trade unions we call for increased solidarity to defend and liberate Donbas and all of Ukraine from Russian occupation.
