Georgia is being rocked by huge, youth-led protests against its pro-Russian government’s attempts to crack down on non-government organisations and civil society, through a “foreign influence” law modelled on the one passed in Russia in 2012. The protesters are calling it the “Russian law”.

The situation has strong parallels with the mass protest movement that took place in Ukraine in 2014, triggering Russian military intervention. Already part of Georgia’s territory is occupied by Russia.

Join us on 16 May for a meeting in solidarity with the Georgian protesters as they confront the riot police, and discussion of the nature of the crisis in Georgia and how it relates to Ukraine.

Speakers include:

LIKA MEBAGISHVILI, chair of the Dental Workers’ Union of Georgia

ARTEM TIDVA Ukrainian trade union organiser and activist of Social Movement (Ukraine)

Meeting organised by Ukraine Solidarity Campaign (UK), with Georgian trade unionist Lika Mebagishvili and Georgia-based Ukrainian trade unionist Artem Tidva. Register for Zoom link. Registration is free but please consider paying for a ticket to donate to the appeal for Ukrainian rescue workers we have launched.
