The Welsh Parliament – Senedd – supported a resolution on 25 October recognising the man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine of 1932-1933 as a genocide of Ukrainian people

The Welsh Parliament saw a discussion and vote on a statement which defines the Holodomor, the man made famine in Soviet Ukraine, as an act of genocide committed by the Stalinist regime against the people of Ukraine and highlights the crucial role of Welsh journalist Gareth Jones in drawing the world’s attention to the cruelty of this crime.
The draft statement was introduced by MPs from various factions of Parliament and from the Welsh Government was reported during the debate by Mick Antonov – Attorney General and Minister for the Constitution of Wales, a Welsh Parliament Member of Ukrainian descent.
The Senedd’s resolution also notes that the Welsh parliament stands with the Ukrainian people as “they face Putin’s illegal war”.
“Senedd:
1. Believes that the Holodomor was a predetermined crime committed and led by Stalin and the Soviet Government against the people of Ukraine.
2. Regards the Holodomor as an act of genocide.
3. Notes the crucial role of Welsh journalist Gareth Jones in bringing the cruelty of the Holodomor to the attention of the world.
